Lustre: The exclusive Emma Bridgewater collection
Much anticipated, and already proving highly popular with the Emma Bridgewater fans out there, our new and exclusive Lustre range has just arrived in store.
The lustre range was one of Emma’s early ceramic creations and was inspired by childhood memories of the mottled colours of lustreware on her mother’s kitchen dresser.
The design has now been resurrected exclusively for us in a range of beautiful shapes including the iconic ½ pint mug, French bowl, serving bowl and a generous 6 pint jug.
The pattern features distinct bubbles and swirls which are created when the unfired lustre reacts with spatters of solvent. It was an historic technique popular in the eighteenth and nineteenth century, and was used to commemorate national events such as the opening of civic buildings or the launch of a grand ship.
