IT’S A JUNGLE OUT THERE

Inspired by the sizzling hues and luscious prints seen on the SS10 catwalk, Liberty re-created a Victorian botanical hot-house on the first floor to showcase the buyers’ picks for the season.
Complete with two rather noisy, but very beautiful parrots – Bolano and Charlie – journalists and stylists perused the collections while tucking into plenty of eastern delights and sweet treats [we especially love the picture of Preets below with the parrot!].
The tropical theme spilled over into the clothes on show – Peter Pilotto, Charles Anastase and Maia Norman’s label Mother of Pearl made a sartorial nod to the rainforest.
Hot new brands include Joseph Altuzarra (worn by Stylist Crissy Arangam, above right); Ricardo Tisci’s prodigy at Givenchy who presented a hyper feminine sensibility with 1970s feel; Meadham Kirchhoff [as seen on Alexandra Stylianidis, above left], an exciting new edition whose latest collection has a fragile femininity with an underlying trademark gothic feel.
Exclusive to us for next season [hooray!], Michael Van Der Ham [above left] explores handcrafted traditions prevalent in a lot of designers work right now, but in a completely new way. MVDH patch-works together bolts of different fabrics, often vintage or reworked – some turned inside out to create a different texture.
For accessories, highlights included Eddie Borgo – the fashion editors favourite, Felder Felder and Meg Mathew’s new range of scarves [above right]. Headpieces and hair bands are still huge for spring and nobody makes them better than Benoit Missolin. Favourites from the Liberty buying team from his S/S 10 collection were the latex rose pieces with lace prints on them.
We love!
