In Conversation with Joseph Altuzarra
Joseph Altuzarra has been gaining quite a fan base in New York, counting Anna Wintour as one of his supporters. For Autumn Winter he delivered a dark and mischievous collection inspired by Tim Burton’s gothic films.
Head of Womens and Accessories Buying Alex Stylianidis caught up with him in our heritage suite where he was about to introduce his seductive wares to the UK press. In the exclusive filmed interview, which is online now, he talks to her about creating clothing that is both theatrical and wearable:
“There are definitely fairly literal reference points, like the costumes and the general mood of the movies…a lot of that we took into the clothing in a very technical way so you’ll see on the shop floor that a lot of the lacing and the stitching looks a little bit rough…but it’s also very fragile, very delicate…there’s a lot to say about things being practical and the ease of putting something on.”
