Liberty Windows: Christmas 2011

Christmas at Liberty 2011

Christmas 2011 sees London’s most beloved store transformed into a magical ‘Imaginarium’. Themed around The Twelve Days of Christmas, ‘The Imaginarium’ is a gateway into the most celestial dreams. Inspiration is drawn from planetary systems, stars, halos, crowns, charms, legend, gods, myths and orbs.

Bowing branches curve through The Pear Tree window. Silver fruits drip off the branches dipped in gold leaf and ice crystals. Eight Maids A-Milking – a dishevelled maid with gold straw in her hair is surrounded by crystal vessels overflowing with Liberty’s luxurious chocolate selection. An ornate gold and silver Snow Queen’s sleigh is illuminated with lanterns and filled with golden gifts, drawn through the windows by Two Turtle Doves tethered with silken reins stretching through the central triptych of windows.

An oversized mannequin stands over a miniature carousel in the window next to the florist’s entrance. Six Geese A-Laying and Three French Hens fill the carousel, while paper flutters around the girl, punctuated with fairy lights. The next triptych of windows is Seven Swans A-Swimming, Nine Ladies Dancing and Five Gold Rings. Suspended gold and silver birdcages display covetable gifts from the fashion and jewellery floors. Peacock feathered walls and chiffon fabrics line the window framed with rich damask drapes as three mannequins mingle with swans topped with golden crowns.
