Serge Lutens
Fragrance master Serge Lutens began his career at 14 as a hairstylist in Lille, where he also experimented with cosmetics and photography. This then led to a role in make-up artistry for French Vogue and in 1967 Lutens was commissioned by designer Christian Dior to launch a make-up line. In the late seventies Lutens joined the hugely important Japanese cosmetics company Shiseido, with whom he developed his iconic scent Nombre Noir. Now heading his eponymous brand, producing imaginative and intoxicating fragrances, Lutens is known today as the world’s greatest living nose, with an approach to his craft that is philosophical rather than commercial.
