More about the Collaboration

Hermes Pour LibertyThe Hermès store at Liberty will present the new collection of Hermès scarves and ties for autumn / winter 2009, from the time-honoured 90 x 90cm ‘carré’ to its new cravate-foulard, an ingenious hybrid of a tie and a cravate for men. More than just a retail space, this temporary boutique will explode with styling ideas and animations. In the style of an over-sized dressing up box, customers will be encouraged to come in to play and experiment with different ways of wearing Hermès scarves and ties through a weekly menu of activities, with stylists and photographers on hand to record their look in silk.

Regular shoppers at Liberty will already know that we introduced a dedicated scarf room as part of our Renaissance on the 15th February 2009. Our mission? To offer the biggest selection - and variety - of scarves in London.

To celebrate this union, Hermès has created an exclusive limited edition range of scarves and ties, using our renowned Tana Lawn cottons. Designed by Bali Barret, Creative Director of Hermès Silk, the scarves will come in two sizes, a 70 x 70 cm and a Gavroche (45 x 45 cm) and in six different micro floral prints, each one screen printed with Hermès’ iconic ‘Ex Libris’ design. A new collection of Hermès’ super-slim 7cm ‘Liverpool’ ties will come in three complimentary Tana Lawn cottons, each one screen printed with a classic Hermès horse-shoe design.

“For us Parisians, Liberty is the British icon,” says Hermès’ Bali Barret who will be in store at Liberty on Monday September 7th to give a scarf-tying masterclass to one lucky competition winner, to be launched online next week. Responsible for the fashionable fusion of Liberty and Hermès, Barret adds: “Both Hermès and Liberty share a love for fantasy and unexpected situations. The idea for the collaboration was to create a fifty percent Hermès and fifty percent Liberty scarf in order to make a one hundred percent truly exciting hybrid collection of scarves and ties. Choosing to print our famous Ex libris on to the famous Liberty Tana Lawn classic flower print was the perfect solution.”

Keep an eye on the Liberty blog in the coming weeks as we go behind the scenes on this outstanding partnership.
