Liberty is pleased to announce the 2011 series of the Liberty sewing school. Join us for a range of special craft, knitting and sewing workshops.

Thursday 24th November
Learn to Crochet with Nicole Wilson
As the chill creeps in why not learn a new skill and start making your own gorgeous blanket or throw to keep you warm. This 2 hour workshop for the absolute beginner or those just starting out will show you how to hold the hook and yarn, work some of the basic crochet stitches, read a simple chart and complete a multicoloured granny square that will definitely banish the Winter blues...

Creative Christmas Corsage with Josephine Perry
Create a beautiful and versatile corsage, complete with fabric-covered button, and be inspired to apply your new skills to all the joys of the season and beyond. Find out how to make wonderful adornments in a variety of materials, to add something extra to your festive outfit or add a handmade element to your gift wrapping. No sewing experience is needed.

Christmas Appliqué Wall Hanging with Janet Goddard
Stitch a festive wall hanging in time for Christmas. The project will be appliquéd by hand and embellished with buttons and hand quilting.

Moving on from Learn to Knit with Margaret Rowan
This workshop is designed for those who have mastered the basics of knitting and are ready to take the next step and be introduced to knitting with textures and colour. You will also learn other techniques for casting on, shaping and the basics of understanding a knitting pattern. By the end of the day you will have the confidence to begin your first garment.
During the day we will cover:
• Invisible cast on for a single rib
• Simple ground stitches
• Introduction to cables, bobbles and lace
• Colour work
• Other methods of increasing and decreasing
• How to work out your tension
• Understanding your knitting pattern.
Participants will need to bring the following items:
• A 3.75mm and 4mm needles
• Small scissors for cutting yarn
• Tape measure
• Notepad and pencil
Saturday 26th November
Christmas Themed Moving on from Learn to Crochet with Erica Pask
This workshop is aimed at those crocheters who have mastered the basics and want to create some festive pieces. The day covers the techniques required to complete a simple selection of decorative pieces with a festive theme.
Snowflake decorations, beaded napkin rings and tree hangings using Rowan Siena cotton. Sparkly bauble covers will use Rowan Shimmer. Both crocheting in rows and rounds are covered. Luxury yarns with a hint of sparkle will add to the day. Each attendee will follow very simple patterns which should enable them to move on to further projects.
The attendees need to bring with them 4mm/3.5mm crochet hooks. All yarn and materials will be provided along with some basic reference notes that they can take home.
